Between September 1 and November 1, 2021, the Queen Silvia Nursing Award will accept applications from nurses and nursing students with ideas to raise the quality of life and care for older people and people living with dementia. This is the ninth consecutive year of the Award. Applications are open to nurses and nursing students in Sweden, Finland, Poland, Germany, Lithuania, and the University of Washington School of Nursing.

The Queen Silvia Nursing Award was first established in 2013 to encourage Swedish nursing students to submit their ideas to raise the quality of life and care for older people and people living with dementia.

Since then, the Award has expanded to an addition 5 countries and now receives submissions from both nursing students and nurses alike. The winner in each country receives a Euro 6000 scholarship and tailor-made learning and networking opportunities with partners associated with the program. Diplomas for the scholarship winners are traditionally presented by Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden at the Queen Silvia Nursing Award Grand Ceremony at the Royal Palace in Stockholm every spring (pandemic pending).

Over 20 Queen Silvia Nursing Award winners have been announced over the years. Last year’s awardees were Lisabet Lindbäck of Sweden, Inka Häkkinen of Finland, Radosław Romanek of Poland, Linda Smit of Germany, Karolina Adomavičiūtė of Lithuania and Brooke Tamble of the University of Washington School of Nursing.

About the Queen Silvia Nursing Award

The Queen Silvia Nursing Award addresses one of the greatest challenges of our shared global future – population ageing and the need for quality older people and dementia nursing. The scholarship motivates nursing talent to become innovators for healthcare development while building and promoting competence in professional nursing. By offering this unprecedented scholarship and learning opportunities for nurses and nursing students, new realms of possibilities become available for future generations of nurses. By lifting nursing talent and their ideas, the Queen Silvia Nursing Award aims to increase the status of nursing as a profession.

The Queen Silvia Nursing Award is made possible by Swedish Care International, Forum For Elderly Care.
